Welcome to One Voice, No Secrets!

One Voice, No Secrets!

One Voice is a new organization dedicated to changing the face of adoption in the United States.  When it comes to adoption there are hundreds and perhaps thousands of websites and organizations working toward changing adoption practices in the United States in one way or another. Some take the stance that adoption must change completely.  These groups engage in activism work at the local and federal levels of government.  Other groups fight for open records for adult adoptees while still others work for family preservation. Still other organizations focus on various topics including healing work with individuals by running support groups, doing search and reunion work and supporting individuals affected by adoption.

With so many organizations doing so much hard work, we believe it is necessary to maximize the impact of the work being done by each individual organization.  While we do not believe everyone must be a member of every organization, we do believe that by working with us organizations can connect and maximize the work they are doing so well.  We exist to distill the work being done by the many excellent groups with which we partner into education and outreach to the general public, social workers, and the government so that needed change can happen.

In order to help us unite the voices of all the different organizations, we ask that you notify us of events, campaigns, conferences, speaking opportunities and anything else related to adoption so we can connect like-minded people and groups.

One Voice, No Secrets - Annouces the "I Vote!" campaign for open records!

One Voice, in cooperation with Adoption Crossroads and OriginsUSA is sponsoring the "I Vote!" campaign to raise awareness of the need for open records in adoption.  In order to participate all you need to do is send a postcard to your elected officials identifying yourself and your position on open records.  Follow the links below for more information!

The "I Vote!" campaign kicks off during the third full week in November.  We ask everyone to send their postcards on Monday, November 26th, 2007.  Our goal is for all of the postcards in the campaign to arrive in the same few days.

While we can't and won't dictate the message written on your postcard, we suggest that the simpler the message the better. We suggest something like:

I am an adoptee with no access to my birth record.
I believe in open birth records for all people.
	I Vote!

or

I am a natural parent who lost a child to adoption.
I have no access to my child's birth record.
I believe in open birth records for all people.
 	I Vote!
or

          I Vote!

All people should have access to the birth certificates that pertain to them.

One Voice, No Secrets is pleased to annouce that it will be partnering with the Adoption Registration Coalition in it's annual registration event the 13th annual RegDay!

RegDay is an annual event to increase public awareness of the International Soundex Reunion Registry; a free humanitarian service better known as ISRR. ISRR is a non-profit mutual consent registry dedicated to reuniting adult family members separated by adoption, divorce, or other dislocation. The ISRR has reunited thousands of adults all over the world.

This year, RegDay is happening on November 10th.  Volunteers from around the nation will staff tables with information on how to register for the ISRR registry.  One Voice, No Secrets fully endorses the efforts of ISRR and will be staffing a table for RegDay in Central New Jersey.
