All changes happen slowly over time. A great deal of work goes into small changes that can add up over time. Small changes grow and grow if people work to make that reality so. One Voice, as an organization has come up with it's first set of goals to work on and implement over the next few years. These are long term goals that we may not see in a short period of time, but over time nothing listed is impossible to impliment. We have not set dates and timelines for making these different sorts of programs happen.
Future Goals of One Voice:
1.A support program and therapy program for those in need
• To create support groups for those whose lives have been affected by adoption
• To create support groups oriented for children who are adopted
• To create a group therapy program for those who like the support group setting but would like to do more intensive work
• To provide counseling by trained, aware professionals at a reasonable cost to those in need
• To create a hotline for crisis pregnancy that will provide support, help and resources for mothers-to-be
2. Education, Awareness, and Training
• To provide training to mental health professionals and other interested professionals
• To train para-professionals for the crisis pregnancy phone-line
• To provide training for those who would like to start and run support groups
• To educate the public about adoption laws, practices, the after-effects; complex psychological, emotional and physical effects on those who have been touched by adoption
• To form a research department
• To have individual members and groups speak at conferences
• To work toward having more educational conferences
• To bring awareness about current adoption legislation and work to change the legislation for open records to all adults affected by adoption
3. Networking
• To affiliate with, liaise, and work with other groups who share similar goals, have a similar mission and vision
• To work with any group working on any of the goals held by “One Voice.”
• To make international connections with groups and individuals sharing information, research and support
• To create a listing of groups, individuals and professional referrals
• To work closely with other groups to build up the support and educational networks
• To mend disagreements from past years and work to focus groups on common goals, treating all the groups and individuals with respect to achieve the desired outcomes
4.Creating Change
• To bring awareness about current adoption legislation and work to change the legislation for open records to all adults affected by adoption
• To work towards making resources known and accessible to those in need
• Uniting individuals and organizations on common grounds to create a stronger voice to make the changes the groups want to see |
